Another great podcast, Pastor Jeff! I agree with everything that was said. I believe in the gift of tongues and I also believe in what the scripture say in that there is to be a holy guardrail place around the use of them. The Lord is considerate to keep his people safe from men’s doctrines that would abuse what God has given. Like you, I have never fit in with either the Baptist faith or the Pentecostal faith. The former believes that tongues have passed away, which the scripture do not say, and the latter declare that tongues are the only sign that a person is saved, definitely not what the scriptures say. Thank you for the thoughtful podcast on what is often a very difficult subject.

Thank you for the explanation on this topic and the abuses used. Pastor Jeff’s explanation was very helpful as we walked through scripture in 1 Corinthians 14. Understanding the scripture is vital in the gifts of the Spirit. This teaching was comforting as to the understanding of tongues and how they are to be used. It reminded me of the Spirit in Romans 8:26, But the Spirit makes intercession for us as we pray. I can now refer to this passage with more understanding of this topic.
Thank you, as I have seen the abuse described in this podcast when visiting a new church.

I agree Kristen! There was a time that I had the privilege to be a part of a vibrant Baptist church. When I served in small groups that spoke against tongues I always had to gently disagree. After all, as Pastor Jeff pointed out, I reminded them that Paul was God’s chosen messenger on the subject and his last word was to not forbid the speaking in tongues.
