Just as Paul mentions, the body of Christ is like the human body. Each part has a specific function necessary to the body of Christ, the church. As a whole, we were all formed uniquely. None of us is the same, so we each have a unique job in the church’s role because we are the church and learn from each member and the gifts others have to offer, but we all receive the same Holy Spirit. God is an incredible creator and craftsman.
Another great podcast! One of the things I really appreciate about 1 Corinthians 12 is that it meets a person where they are often found – unsure and afraid. And what the Holy Spirit promises is that even if you feel unsure that you have a role to play in the church of Jesus Christ, you absolutely do. No one is left from receiving a gift from God!
On the other hand I think it keeps all members of Christ humble. The person who has the spiritual gift of evangelism cannot say to the one that has the spiritual gift of serving, “What you do is unimportant.”
I like how you say that the Holy Spirit promises even when we feel unsure about our role. He always uses us in our place of what we think are weaknesses.
Very encouraging message that yes we all have a role to play within the body of Christ. Because at time it is very tempting to look at others or listen to the voice of self doubt and discount our personal contribution. But we do all have a unique contribution to make which is very exciting and encouraging.
It’s also reassuring to understand that we are gifted in unique ways for divine purposes and appointments. We can trust God with that. It’s also very interesting to reflect on how I might encourage others in their personal contribution what a way to heal by serving others! Yes we will all give an account of our use of our gifts. A sobering thought!
I agree, it is always sobering to think that we will indeed give an account of our stewardship over the gift/gifts we have received from Holy Spirit.
