190: Gifts and Fruit of the Holy Spirit

190: Gifts and Fruit of the Holy Spirit

In today’s episode, we will discuss the following passages.

John 16:14
Zechariah 4:5
John 6:35

  • Mike Reynolds says:

I love what was said about drinking in or feeding on spiritual resources. The more you partake the more your heart opens up and stretches to contain more of the the Holy Spirit. This is my prayer for this coming year, to be more spiritually full and continually overflowing with a constant hunger for His wisdom and discernment in all things.

  • Ann-Louise Graham says:

I agree Pastor Jeff the Holy Spirit always leads us to magnify and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. And it’s an immense privileged that we can do that in the Biblical counselling ministry. I also like what you said that good hermeneutics / interpretation will lead to good application. So very important because as you pointed out bearing fruit is more excellent. (1 Cor 12:31)

  • Lorna Usery says:

God is GENIUS!!! I am AMAZED at His genius creativity in the gift-mix diversities given by the Spirit that transcends cultures, churches, geographies, etc. We each are created unique! There is diversity but unity, not uniformity. I love your statement that the diversity magnifies the oneness of the body of Christ because it is found in the body of Christ. And when you talked about we each have a different passion for our service of the body of Christ, I got a picture of the physical body with the different organs functioning in their “passions” to continually keep the body healthy and functioning properly in it’s purpose to magnify Christ. The magnitude of that thought. . . . !!!! I am blown away in worship of such a God that we serve! It’s no wonder the angels at God’s throne continually cry Holy, Holy, Holy and the 24 elders fall and cast their crowns before Him!

    • Ann-Louise Graham says:

I agree Lorna it is an amazing picture. Truth. We sometimes forget that our passions are for the service of the body of Christ. For the unity of the body to the glory of God! Amen.

  • Laura Dahne says:

Pastor Jeff, I absolutely love these podcasts. Yes, we NEED, we MUST have, the help and presence of Holy Spirit to accomplish ANYTHING! I agree that our journey begins with humility. It begins with us letting go of whatever we think we have to give to others. What counselees need, what we need, is the wisdom and excellency of Jesus Christ and His word. I have often exhausted myself in “trying to be all for others” when all I needed to offer them was Jesus Himself! By the way, I think it is so neat that you invite others to come and experience the beauty of Colorado with you and others – all while teaching the practicality of God’s word through what they will experience.

    • Anita Hammond says:

Hey Laura, hope your Christmas and New Years went well.

I agree with your humility statement. Spurgeon said, “Humility is the proper estimate of oneself.” A true walk, a Holy Spirit driven walk with the Lord is where humility is.
Andrew Murray says, “Humility is not so much a virtue…but is the root of all, because it alone takes the right attitude before God and allows Him, as God, to do all.” We say by the blessed Holy Spirit we can truly serve. Good word Laura!

      • Lorna Usery says:

Laura, I too have wrongly struggled (self) “to be all for others”. A man pleaser rather than led by the Spirit to be a God pleaser. Humility is the key.
Anita, I love Andrew Murry as well. And your quotes of his are a couple of my favorites. 🙂

    • Ann-Louise Graham says:

I agree our counselees (an myself) always needs the wisdom and excellency that comes from the Lord himself and his word. I was just saying that to a counselee this week. That her perspective must be formed by and through the word of God and by the Spirit of God. Amen.

  • Anita Hammond says:

Great Podcast! I especially agree with that in order to lead others to the living water of Christ, we have to be desiring the same. It shows when one loves the Lord above all. People can trust that because it is real and evident in the walk. I also believe that the glorifying of Christ comes from the Holy Spirit in what we do by the Spirit only, and not by our own might. That to me, is beautiful and makes me stop, consider, and really evaluate how I proceed with everything in my life.

    • Laura Dahne says:

I agree with your statement Anita that we have to have a desire for the living water of the Spirit before we can lead others in that desire. After all, we can’t give what we don’t possess. I’ve often thought that the only thing that really lasts in what we teach others is when we’ve actually experienced it and then help them to experience it as well.

  • Travis Silver says:

Hey Jeff , I want to increase my spiritual health. I feel my heart is in line with the Lord and just can’t wait to see what his plan is for me. Additionally you mentioned getting together in 2023 up there in Colorado for the events you’ll be hosting. I would love to do that l! My back on the other hand can’t handle sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag. Hiking yes, ground sleeping is a big no! Wish there were other accommodations. If there was I would love to go!!

    • Laura Dahne says:

What a wonderful thing to experience Travis, the reality of been in alignment with God through his Holy Spirit! What a great way to start 2023!

    • Lorna Usery says:

Wouldn’t that be fantastic, Travis? If there could be a way that I would be able to take my extra large camping cot with me as I hiked, I’d be there too in 2023. Because sleeping on the ground is not an option for me any more. My heart would NOT get in line with God for dealing with all the aches and pains. Burt and I still plan on visiting Pastor Jeff’s church in Glenwood Springs at some point in 2023 though. which I know will be a tremendous blessing of fellowship and encouragement.
