007: Patience in Conflict Resolution

What You'll Discover in this Episode:

On today’s episode, we are continuing in the study on Resolving Conflict, through the foundational truths and character building truths, that lay a foundation for resolving conflict. The focus of today’s discussion is patience as a foundational character of the Christian.

God is personally developing patience in every christian’s life. By focusing on Him, trusting Him, and abiding in Him, we will let patience have its perfect work, and we will bear much fruit. Day by day, month by month, year by year- we are rooted and grounded in God's love. Thanks for joining us as we look at patience as a foundation developing work of God in our hearts!

  • Patience is the lack of complaint during or in the midst of the discomforts of life.
  • Patience is an outflow of God’s love.
  • Patience is a key prerequisite to the character building that will enable us to handle conflict resolution well.
  • Remember to be patient with yourself and others. The need for endurance allows God's working to take the time it needs.
  • To accelerate growth in the Christian life, we know spiritual habits that the Bible teaches us to do as Christians.

Awe this was so good to hear. Patience is so hard, especially with ourselves. Waiting on God to change us and teach us patience. I just want it to happen now. So hard to have the endurance to wait for Him to work in me. Boy if I haven’t learned to be patient with myself, to wait on Him to change me, it is pretty hard to wait for Him to change others. And it is so easy to try to “put on” patience and endurance, rather than waiting on Him to work it into my life by abiding in Him and going through what He knows I need to learn patience. Thank you for this great teaching!

Pastor Jeff, God uses you in so many wonderful ways! Every single podcast is an opportunity to grow and to better understand the Lord and His Word! I especially appreciate when you share with us the difficult parts of your life. Perhaps because I’m so private, it reminds me of the power of transparency, and how it opens the heart of others. That’s what your transparency does for us. Patience and endurance, I am reminded of how much I am to ask the Lord to empower me to grow in these.

I’m so thanking we are using the Word. I know it sounds like a simple statement, but I love reading God’s Word, and this is just as you say, “Sending us to the Wonderful Counselor”. You are so right, we can not manufacture patience. If we try to, it will be a “false patience”. I liked when you said, “we can draw on flesh or we can draw on the Spirit”. We need the Holy Spirit in our lives.

  • Rev.Rick says:

God reminded me of James 5:7-8, which says, “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”

God pointed out to me that when the farmer sows, the rain doesn’t come immediately. Rather, he has to wait for the rains to water the land. These autumn and spring rains would only come in certain—and not all—seasons.

In essence, patience as a virtue is a process of waiting on God and trusting in His timing, instead of being anxious about results that don’t appear immediately.

And James reminds us that we don’t have to wait indefinitely. The end point is “the Lord’s coming” (vv. 7–8), which “is near” (v. 8). I understand this in two ways. One, God can sovereignly come through for us in the situation we’re enduring, while we’re still on earth.

Thank you Pastor Jeff. I’m loving this new podcast setup. Great information to quickly reference. The 4 L’s in practice for how to counsel someone thinking about death and suicide, definitely a huge reminder to utilize the Holy Spirit; not in our own strength. Amen! Love Listen Launch Lean – powerful! Love in Christ, Brother Jose Garcia.
